Marine & Land Use Plan
Client:
Tsawataineuk First Nation (Kingcome Inlet, BC)
Year Completed:
2006 GeoMemes supported the Tsawataineuk First Nation in a Capacity Building project focused on drafting a Marine and Land Use Plan for the community. GeoMemes provided project management, cultural interview, research and GIS services. We trained a comunity researcher. We assisted TUS/TEK interviewer Mike Willie with video-taping interviews with elders.
The project produced a community GIS geodatabase, 30+ maps including coarse filter ecosystem maps and an old cedar map, and a draft of the commuity's Vision for sustainable economic development. The project was funded by an Indian & Northern Affairs Canada INAC-BC-2005 Capacity Grant which was secured with the assistance of Krista Robertson.
