Web Mapping
Web Mapping is the process of designing, implementing, generating and delivering maps on the World Wide Web. Maps can range from simple images to interactive Google Maps to web-GIS systems with data pulled from databases and managed through a content management system such as Drupal. Central to our web-mapping efforts is the writing of code to add mapping capabilities to the Drupal content management system. We lead development on the Geobrowser module and the OpenLayers module.
At Geomemes, we are passionate about open standards. When data is stored and transmitted using open standards, powerful and easy to use web-based mapping systems can be built. For example, the Province of British Columbia (via GeoBC (www.geobc.gov.bc.ca) has started to share its vast public spatial data layers using open standards, namely using Google's Keyhole Markup Language (KML) and the Open Geospatial Organization's web mapping service (WMS) specification. We use these data and services, plus many more, to build elegant and intuitive map "mash-ups" with client data.
